Mission Statement
IT IS OUR HOPE THAT:
Through the generosity of a community and hard work the David J. Bentz III (DJ) Scholarship
Fund, created in JulyFebruary, 2008 will annually provide financial assistance to a senior varsity
student/athlete planning to attend college.
The primary benefactors of this Scholarship Fund will be a graduating senior from Clayton High
School, Clayton, New Jersey. Additionally, the Board of Directors of this fund will provide guidelines
and establish clear eligibility requirements for prospective student/athletes to meet. It is our goal
to make our scholarship the “ONE” students aspire to achieve.
DETERMINATION SACRIFICE COMMITMENT RESPECT HONOR
These are the values that the Scholarship Fund supports and is looking for. The annual scholarship
award winner will, through the course of their high school career, exhibit what it means to never
quit on themselves or their teammates. Team success is first and foremost. Sacrificing individual
identity in order for the team to succeed is often overlooked by the casual onlooker, however this is
an important attribute that the recipient will have exuded over their high school career.
The commitment to education, the team and to the privilege and honor of playing varsity sports
will be evident each and everyday this young student/athlete steps into a classroom and onto the
playing field. Respect for teachers, coaches, officials, and others is a direct reflection of DJ's legacy
and what this award is designed to reward. Respecting the institution of education and having the
pride to step up to the challenges that confront us will be an extremely important component to the
Scholarship Fund.
OUR PURPOSE & INTENT
The David J. Bentz III Scholarship Fund is designed to help a young student/athlete attend college,
whereas they may not have, without the financial assistance of this particular scholarship.
By exhibiting the same values and characteristics that our beloved DJ had, we are confident that
each and every recipient will produce a positive path paved by the values they have cultivated and
emulated.
